Dogs have always been a passion of mine. I grew up in Zimbabwe and have always had dogs myself. Most of my childhood we had seven dogs of all breads and sizes, from St Bernard’s, Great Danes, Rottweilers, a few mixed breads to miniature Daschunds.
They all lived in harmony amongst each other and there were never any fights or problems between them. Once I moved to England I wanted to get a dog and finally got into a position were I could have one.
I now have a miniature Daschund named Shumba. He is a lovely, lively dog who loves playing fetch. Once he started getting older I notice a few behaviour problems, he was never aggressive or possessive over toys but he would pull on the lead quite a lot when out walking. He was also territorial and would bark at people passing the window and would chew on the carpet. The main problem he had was separation anxiety we could never leave him at home alone, with out coming back to our dustbin on the floor and all the contents scatted around the house.
I started doing some research on dogs and attended a home course in dog psychology. I learnt a lot about how the dogs mind works and how our human minds are so different. Once I finished my course it inspired me to want to do dog behaviour and psychology as a profession.
I found Sharon Bolt’s website Good Dogs, when I was searching for “a dog expert course” I bought her audio recording “leadership first, then affection.” I was very inspired by her method and applied it on Shumba and saw an incredible difference in his behaviour. I found within days he seemed so much better and not long after that all his unwanted behaviours stopped. I applied for her telephone seminar, and was then invited on her exclusive dog behaviourist course.
It was my passion for dogs and the drive to teach others the “canine language” to open up The Alpha Dog, so that other people can live in harmony with their canine friend.
